Anthony Naples - Scanners
Anthony Naples has spent over a decade quietly shaping the sound of modern underground dance music. First gaining attention with 2012’s lo-fi house anthem “Mad Disrespect,” the New York-based producer has since built a catalog defined by fluidity, atmosphere, and emotional depth. Through his label Incienso, co-run with Jenny Slattery, Naples has helped spotlight a new generation of boundary-pushing artists like DJ Python, Beta Librae, and Lodis. His own albums have often favored ambient excursions and hazy detours.
On Scanners, Naples strips away the ambient interludes and plunges fully into the club. It’s his most direct and kinetic album to date, but no less nuanced. The record veers between slinky dub techno, broken beat, trance, house, and techno—each track distinct yet unmistakably his. A newfound brightness and optimism pulses through much of the album, with melodies that feel open-hearted and emotionally generous. Even at its most euphoric, Scanners maintains Naples’ signature sense of depth and restraint, offering a vivid spectrum of moods for the dance floor without tipping into excess.
